post-challenge green living

So now what happens?
* * *
We were only a few hours out and after all that, I slipped an took a bag at the Target checkout! Between Eva, Nathanael, and paying for my purchases (which were small enough to slip into the diaper bag), I didn't think anything of taking the bag from the cashier. Goes to show that habits take more than a few weeks to change.

However, when I took the time to think about it (and it helps to have Nathanael along chatting about our "go green" purchases!) I do better. We stopped to pick up some special supplies for a project the kids are doing and left with binders made of recycled chipboard and paperclips made from recycled material. This was a lot of fun, actually, because it was NCK who helped compare packages and find which ones were made out of recycled materials.

progress, not perfection! I have been doing the green thing for years, have a ton of reusable bags in my trunk, and STILL sometimes end up with a plastic bag. I encourage you to take it a day at a time -- habits take up to thirty days to replace with new behaviors -- and commend you for taking that sometimes uncomfortable look at your family's consumption.
